The Enchanted Circle in Northern New Mexico

Traveling the National Forrest Scenic Byway around the Enchanted Circle is a great way to get a feel to the area.  You get to visit the villiages of Angel Fire, Eagle Nest, Red River, Questa and the city of Taos.  Each one of these towns has something of interest plus the drive offers spectacular views of mountains, valleys, high dessert, rivers and lakes.

 

 

Winter activities

Winter is beautiful and fun in the Enchanted Circle.

Eagle Nest village is the eastern gate-way to the Enchanted Circle and offer ice fishing on the beautiful Eagle Nest Lake.  Angel Fire (11 miles to the south) and Red River (18 miles to the north) feature skiing and snowboarding for all levels. Taos ski area has more advanced to expert sking just an hour away.

Snow mobiling, snow shoeing and cross country skiing are also available through-out the Enchanted Circle.

Summer activities

Hiking, fishing, biking, horseback riding, art and shopping are just a part of the summer activities in the Enchanted Circle. Most every week-end you can attend one of the many summer festivals in and around the circle from Eagle Nest's Annual High Country Arts & Crafts Show, Red River's Fine Art & Wine Festival, Angle Fire's Music of Angle Fire toTaos's Film Festival. There is never a lack of something to do.

Wheeler peek is the highest mountain in New Mexico and sits in the beautiful Sangre de Cristo mountain range, where you will find crisp alpinge air, sunny days and blue skies.  Just enjoy a drive around the circle, stopping to shop in the towns or fish in the streams or hike on the trails.  You can even pan for gold as you visit the Gateway Museum in Eagle Nest.
